"Floors that nobody else will sand, I'll sand." says Craig Munson, owner of Seattle Floor Service, who, along with his "floor mechanics," has been refinishing and installing hardwoods in Seattle for 15 years. "What we're known for is restoration work in older homes and high-end custom remodels."

When it comes to refinishing floors, the question Munson most often fields is to Swedish or not to Swedish? Swedish finishes are famous for their buttery good looks and durability, but also have a high "volatile organic content" and a noxious smell that can take days to dissipate. The good news, says Munson, "is water-based finishes have improved quite a bit. We're seeing a real environmental trend, and are doing more and more water-based finishes now."
